11:29 PM - further SY excitement
Not to make you think I have a one track mind or anything, but this is just too awesome not to mention... At the Thurston Moore book signing the other day he explained the fact that he was wearing a suit and tie by saying that he had to go have cocktails with Hillary Clinton later... of course you'd think he was joking, right? Well apparently not! Check out the photos from that (Lower Manhattan Cultural Council Hosts Annual "Downtown Dinner" Benefit Event)! For the lazy readers out there, basically Sonic Youth was honored alongside Hillary Clinton, Chuck Shumer, and the builders of the WTC for their "outstanding contributions and ongoing efforts to revitalize Lower Manhattan as well as their commitment to NYC's arts and culture." WOW!

Poor Jim O'Rourke. Sonic Youth asks him to join their band, and he apparently doesn't even get invited to this.

I could be wrong, but I think that Jim had a show somewhere in Brooklyn (?) that night. Maybe they invited him but he already had plans...

Gotta love those altruistic WTC developers. Funny though, I thought they were making outstanding contributions to the Line Larry Silverstein's Pockets Fund. But if Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth and Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth and even Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth say everything's on the up and up...well, then that's cool.
