05:20 PM - Matt Mahaffey + Beck = *drool*
Somebody buy me a plane ticket to Europe right now. Please. Why? Oh, I'll tell you why! The one and only Matt Mahaffey is touring with the one and only Beck Hansen (as drummer, percussionist, etc etc). I hope they do a US tour that way too... even though Self doesn't seem to really be, well, existing, these days, Matt playing with Beck would be a reasnably satisfying substitution (though how about Matt solo opening for Beck? THAT would be amazing...). Ok that's all. Self is awesome. Beck is awesome. I'm a nerdy fanboy. Shut up.

I thought Matt was the touring guitarist for Beck - not drummer / percussionist. I could be totally wrong.
Regardless, I don't think he's going to be participating right off due to the untimely (and incredibly unfortunate) passing of Mike Mahaffey.

i swear i thought i read somewhere that is was as percussionist... but you would probably know better than me.

I agree, it's unreal about mike. I keep watching the "O&C Sessions" video and look at him and can't imagine him dead.

In typical Self fashion, Matt isn't mentioned. I have to wonder what it means. The listed drummer was the listed drummer long before we heard about Matt taking over, so I think Matt Mahaffey is replacing the other, not the other way around.
Also, yeah, Beck is amazing and Matt is perfect, so it should be worth all the money in the world to see them together, if it is to be.

I had the unique pleasure to be in the first band with Matt. He was nine years old and the most amazing drummer in the area, so it doesn't faze me in the least to here that Matt might be in the position of percussionist. RIP MIKEY>
