TONIGHT! MIG play CMJ! | Main | It's unusual for me to do this these days

07:50 AM - Enough with the music thing

Wowzers. So I didn't end up making it to all the panels and shows happening yesterday for the end of the CMJ Marathon but that's ok. After the awesomeness that was Thursday at Crash Mansion I didn't really need anything else to prove that CMJ is actually quite a good thing... but then on Friday I managed to get out early and check out the booths at Lincoln Center after a failed attempt at getting there in time for the Hold Steady's show on the Daystage, after which I headed down to Hiro for the first time (really cool space, by the way - nothing like what I expected) to see The Most Serene Republic. Those Arts and Crafts Records people really know what they're doing. Wowzers. I wished I could have stuck around for the rest of the show, but I had to head back to Brooklyn to prepare for MiG's CMJ show at 169 Bar. For those who weren't there... you missed out, dude. It was a fast and loud whiz-bang time and ended with me and Tina on the floor with the drum set crashing down around us. I like it when shows go that way. If you missed it, we're playing on Wednesday at Lit with the guys and lady of SHLSHKD.

I will confess that a number of things kept me from my CMJ pass-abusing plans yesterday, the biggest one being the rain and the second biggest one being Jeremy's "special" lemonade. It's the guy with the tie's birthday today (HAPPY BIRTHDAY!) so there was a party for him last night, and by the time midnight crept around and it would have been time to head to the subway to go to either the Brian Jonestown show at Northsix or the Single Frame show at Delancey (which I do kind of regret missing actually) I was in no way thinking about going to a rock show. Instead I just wanted to drink the really big and cheap iced tea in the plastic bottle from the weird little 24 hour deli. Did anyone make it to those shows? How about the Sun/Metric/t(i)nc show? I imagine that one must have been something...

About Jeremy's birthday... remember Guitarded? Well we did the same concept for him. Though the prolific kid he is, he had 20-something tracks in all, including a new original tribute song from El Jezel. Everything sounded wonderful. Why is it that our friends do such incredible things to our songs? I'm sure that somehow you'll be able to hear "Guitarmy" soon.

So who wants to see Rainer Maria on the 26th for free? Anyone? It's an early show. I need a date!
