03:41 AM - It's unusual for me to do this these days

No, it's not unusual for me to go to a rock show. It's also not at all strange for me to take pictures and put them on the internet (see my flickr account.) What is strange is for me to actually go see a show and then run right home and post about it, with photos, here on Subinev. Well get used to it, kids, because things just could be changing (or maybe I just can't sleep.)

EZ Machine @ Lit Lounge

First it was off to Lit (where MiG will be playing on Wednesday) to see EZ Machine. I got to work the projector. By "work the projector" I mean that I pressed play at the beginning of the show. I wish more people would dance when they play... it really would make a lot more sense than a crowd sitting around sipping drinks.

The Morning After Girls @ Vicious / Rothko

I'd seen the name of the band, The Morning After Girls, mentioned on blogs here and there, maybe even a magazine (though maybe I'm making that up) quite some time ago, but until tonight I didn't actually give them much of a thought. I should have known that a band that is associated with the Brian Jonestown Massacre (opening a bunch of shows for them recently) is probably up my alley... so tonight after watching the videos on their website I decided to stop by Vicious @ Rothko after the EZ show at Lit to see just what these people are all about. First of all, they're Australian. The girl is cute. The boys are skinny. The guitars are shiny. Bang boom blam! That about sums it up. They do a similar noisy/jangly/dark/bright/droney/cheary thing like BJM. In fact, the man himself, Anton Newcombe, showed up right after me (actually the motorcycle that dropped him off at the show damn near ran me over, thanks dude) and managed to steal the show for a few minutes, finally lending some tambourine man action to the band's final song.

Anton Newcombe of Brian Jonestown Massacre wants the spotlight to be put back on The Morning After Girls

I think I need to point out, much like Anton did, that though The Morning After Girls have a strong connection to the (at the moment) very popular BJM, tonight was about them, as it was their show and they were doing an amazing job. Their sound was big and beautiful, and seeing them made me wish that I'd started paying attention to them a long time ago.

I have a number of photos from the show up at flickr that came out pretty good.

i actually didn't bring my camera to the read yellow show. i was more interested in just getting to see them than being stuck behind a camera all night. though i do wish i had because they would be a lot of fun to shoot.
