A good night, and, yes, a good year. | Main | Bring on the noise
I didn't stop posting on purpose, mind you, but rather I got very busy with a few things and just didn't find time for it. Unfortunately I also didn't have time to post on another blog that I was supposed to. Eep. Oh well. Mostly it's been because of the party this Saturday that I organized. 8 bands, two stages, one awesome DJ - all in the name of supporting the local music scene. Yes, really. Conveniently sponsored by The Deli Magazine and StereoactiveNYC.com - it's the New for '06 party at Asterisk. Reposting about this is much appreciated! I just watched the Clerks II trailer. No matter what you are about to say, shut up, it's going to be amazing. (Please, Kevin, don't let me down again!) Just because I supposedly cried my eyes out during Jersey girl, that doesn't mean that it was a good movie. Seriously. Do us right this time, ok? Also this week, a great local band by the name of The Secret Life of Sofia are making their debut at the Mercury Lounge in celebration of the release of their debut EP on Friday night. Internet, meet the Secret Life of Sofia. TSLOS, meet the internet. Now go get to know each other. With any luck the hungry music millions looking for that first fix of the new year will pick up on the great songs on this ep (not to mention the super hot hand-made artwork on the limited editions...). Get a taste (and download "Hospital Inside Me" at their Myspace page. Come out to their release show and be one of the lucky few who will be the first to get their hands on this record. You'll thank me later. Also on this bill are Demander and Looker, both of whom I highly recommend you stick around and watch. In other music release news, Morningwood, minus Japa and Richard, but plus a large man with large hair called Fredo, are releasing their debut, Morningwood, on Capitol Records today. I've been enjoying this album for months now, and it's about time you got to join in the fun. I'm also about to watch them perform "Nth Degree" off the record live on Fuse at 5. Crazy. Their release show is tomorrow at Bowery Ballroom. Not to beat a dead horse, but there's yet another record out today that you should look into. We Are Scientists' With Love and Squalor comes out today, and from the songs I've heard and the videos I've seen and getting to hang out with the guys... well they're more than worth your time. Go check them out. Hah, just as I finisedh typing that, their commercial came on. Silly. They just might be the most likeable band around. Oh, and they don't suck. Now if only I had actually RECEIVED their cd I could talk more about their music, but apparently the post office hates me. Pffft. I'm sick. But there's you're update. No, I don't have any top whatever lists for 2005. I probably won't bother at this point. Though I will say that the Silver Jews record is one of the best and most addictive things I've heard in a good while.
