Tonight is the debut of Glenn and Jen's new thang at Fat Baby. Check it out. Official details: $8, Happy hour: 7pm - 9pm, Bands at 8pm. I don't know much about two of the bands (though I've heard Bravo Silva's name thrown around quite a bit in the past year), but I do know Overnight. This bill is worth it for this band alone. Check out some tracks from their excellent Beat The Drum til They Follow ep on their myspace page. There's a definite 80's new wave / post-punk feel to their sound without sounding like a tribute band (as most do). The XTC influence is pretty apparent and I love it. Also, does anyone else think they sound a bit like Wolf Parade? Anyway I'm off to jersey this weekend for the Glenn Branca Symphony for 100 guitars. I've been practicing on my new guitar (a '65 Kent) and perhaps it's just because I'm in a different section than last time, but the piece seems a bit easier than the last (attempt at) recording. By the way, Branca is still looking for two bassists to participate this weekend. It involves rehearsing and recording all day Thursday and Friday and then performance on Saturday in Montclair, NJ. Get tickets to the concert! I just booked an EMSO show for Monday, February 13th @ Sin-e. Alina and Dead Radar are also on the bill. That's going to be one hell of a noisey night.
Live music from Bravo Silva, Overnight and Nepo.
Plus DJs Craig Wedren (Baby, Shudder to Think) and Michael Jurin (stellastarr*)
