10:07 AM - Resident Alien

Local pop-meisters of the boy-girl tag-team variety, the IOs, just announced the release of their debut 7" single, "Resident Alien," on Kanine Records! Hit their site to buy it now. Their full length "In Sunday Songs" will finally be out later this year. The band is celebrating with a show this Saturday in DC at the Asylum and then a Mercury Lounge gig here in NYC on April 11th. Congrats, kids!

For those in NYC tonight, I'm going to do something totally out of character and suggest that you attend a show at the Bitter End. Morning Theft have gone and gotten themselves wrapped up in one of those 'battle of the bands' type of things and they need your support in round two! The band is on at 8:30pm and tickets are $15 at the door or $10 from the band (email holmes at* morningtheft.net to get the cheaper advanced tickets and good old Rob will also hook you up with a MT shirt or cd, making it more than worth it.)

Later on I'm taking advantage of the best free rock show that NYC has to offer over at Death Disco. Some good bands that MiG actually shared a bill with in Houston but I didn't get to stick around and watch (The Dead Betties and Die Die Die) are playing so I'll get to check them out and there is a slim chance that my new favorite Canadians, Run Chico Run, will play if a slot opens up. If not maybe we can set them up on the roof or something and have them play anyway.

In more Canadian obsessions, Apples Apples are way adorable. I'm going to get them down to NYC.

You should also expect to be seeing Florence, Alabama's best-kept secret, Western Civ, up this way soon. They're quite a bit like Pavement or Weezer or the Pixies but they have ZYLOPIPES! Totally awesome.
