03:43 PM - They Grew in Hell's Backyard

I've been telling you about the Canadians.

Run Chico Run

Run Chico Run - "Clockwork Crows" [from Boompa!]
Run Chico Run - "Slow Action is the Best Action" [from Insound]

Meet Matt and Thomas. They are Run Chico Run. I met these two guys when MiG was on tour in Texas and playing at a place called Super Happy Fun Land in Houston. They did a few songs and helped out their friend Carolyn Mark during her set. Their own stuff was (what seems to my naive NYC-centric ears) very "Canadian" - the way they used the drums and keys reminded me intitially of Unicorns/Islands. It's just the two of them but live and on record they make enough sounds to convince you that you're not just listening to two people. Their latest record, Slow Action, is out on Boompa Records (just released last week) and quite a treat - in my last post Justin pointed out that Boompa has a pretty trustworthy reputation for putting out great stuff. They've been in town for a few days (hence the photo above of them taking in the find Brooklyn morning today on my couch) and are about to play their first NYC show ever tomorrow night (Saturday, April 1st) at the Knitting Factory (in the Old Office.) Come out and see these guys while you have the chance, before they head off to their far-off wilds of Western Canada (none of that Montreal silliness, they're all the way on the other side, by the yeties.)

Comments
