TVOTR on the way | Main | I would only be a liar

April 03, 2006

01:31 PM - Calenderalized

I updated the show calender. There's a lot going on. Look down yonder on the sidebar for details. Obviously it is by no means a complete list of shows going on in the city, but more like the list of shows I want to go to (and would, if only I could get my damn cloning machine to work!)

Of extra-super-duper-special-note are two shows this week (though all the ones listed are super fantastic and should be checked out) but these are two of the sorts that deserve congratulations to the bands in some way.

First, the Song Corporations, lovely ex-Oberlin darlings that they are, and very close to my heart of course, are beginning a residency this week. Through the month of April, you can catch them doing their thing every Wednesday at precisely 8pm at the Delancey, in what is called the "After 8 Sessions" in the realm of the weekly Death Disco party. The shows are free, so really if you wanted you could see them 4 times this month for free. I guarantee that you will get more than you pay for. But ALSO! They have invited friendly bands to come and join them for these shows, including Standing Nudes, Emma La Reina, Call Me Lightning, Cholo, and Man in Gray (on the 26th.) Full lineups on the Song Corp. site.

Then on Saturday we have a special Serious Business Records event! The Unsacred Hearts will release a fireball of drunken rock 'n roll madness (in the form of their first longplaying record, In Defense of Fort Useless) upon the world, celebrating with a debaucherous romp through the halls of Pianos, which is a rock club. But you knew that. Looker will also be playing. Come to this. My only question is what type of whiskey will be consumed? Which is appropriate for a record release show?

Bonus! You might as well just plan on being completely wasted in celebration all week, lushes, what with the Friction show on Thursday (El Jezel! Rahim's record release! EGADS!) and then the free Underrated Mag show on Friday with Palomar! Heck I don't think I can handle it.

Also, I saw Kyp Malone play solo at the Knit the other night, and though he really does seem to favorite loopy droney monotonous guitaring, his voice is out of this world, interplanetary, and stellar even. Looked like his bandmates from TV on the Radio were front and center in the audience (I think it was them, I could be wrong though as I didn't really take a good look.) Downstairs, later, Run Chico Run made their NYC debut and blew the minds of the very thin crowd. Next time, bigger things. Much bigger things.
