I've decided to start a new feature here, where I dig through the list of bands that MiG has played shows with and see what's happening with them now. I know that some have gone on to big things, a few have become close friends, others have broken up, but there are plenty that I just don't know anything about. I'll find out what I can - hopefully there will be some really good discoveries. There will probably be some really funny finds. We'll start with 2001: Derek Richmond - I don't think I saw him play, but I'm guessing that this is him - still around in the antifolk scene. Blue Sand Castle - Another one that I don't remember very well, but I'm guessing that this is the same band, only now with a new name. Here's an mp3 anyway. It's very mellow and sweet sounding, with a slight alt-folk feel. Blue Sand Castle / Last Charge of the Light Horse - "Au Clair" Seeing Voices - I remember this band being very professional and sounding incredibly tight, even if their music wasn't really to my taste. Their thing was much more of a pop-rock/jazzy sound, with pretty female lead vocals and harmonies. Nice stuff, but it didn't make me want to rock out. Looks like they just launched their website last year though other than that they don't appear to be too active - possibly recording. Circle+Square - They were one of the "bigger" bands around while I was at NYU, and their ep, Harmonov, had the classic song "Circle and Square in Your Pants," though the chorus dated it "for the year 2000" I'm pretty sure we were all still singing along a couple years later. As far as I know at this point the band no longer exists. About a year ago they made a new full length album available as a free download on their website, though that appears to be gone now - listen on their myspace page. Milo - They played right after MiG at our first show, at NYU. I was excited because they had a theremin, but the vocals totally turned me off. The band changed their name/turned into/has some strong ties to Arbor Day - who have a horn section. Arbor Day have been pretty active in the past few years and are quite good, definitely much better than I remembered Milo being. Watch the video for their song "Another Thing" here. Arbor Day will be playing with MiG on May 6th at the StereoactiveNYC/Deli Magazine party at Asterisk Art Space in Brooklyn. They have newer songs on their Myspace page, but here are a couple mp3s from their Radar Boy ep. Arbor Day - "Vegetable" The Banned - I was all set to go through each band called The Banned on Myspace and write about them, but then I found the right one. Oh well. The Banned broke up in 2003 after playing together for 8 years. Oddly enough their links page mentions a number of bands who will be included in future editions of Where are they now? on Subinev. The band make available full mp3s of the 23 tracks from their two releases on their site. Most of it is pretty spastic but poppy punk rock n' roll, while some heads more towards the proggy, Coheed and Cambria realm (though that comparison is a bit of an exageration.) Interesting. If they were still around I'd suggest that they play a show with Mistakes. The Banned - "Sirens and Cymbals" Dawn Landes - Dawn is an incredibly talented solo artist. She was working hard back then and to this day she's still playing tons of shows and making great music. Her stuff is very quiet and folky, in that sort of dangerously fragile but just cute enough way that you are almost scared that the smile it puts on your face will break it. She's currently on tour in Europe.
Arbor Day - "Napoleonic"
Arbor Day - "Duran Duran"
The Banned - "I want the news, not the weather"

That's hilarious and fantastic. Thank you for creating this great resource of nostalgia.
