Where are they now? - Introduction | Main | Asbury demolition set for April 29

12:13 AM - Wyrd Visions

Usually when I see a bulletin on Myspace saying "Check out this band! Add them as a friend! This song TOTALLY RULEZ!" I don't believe them. Somehow when a band that you really enjoy and respect posts that it's a bit different.

Grizzly Bear (probably Ed, I assunme?) posted about Wyrd Visions, since they just did a tour together (with Final Fantasy,) and suggested checking out the one mp3 available. The song is very soft and lulling - loopy vocals and acoustic guitar. There is a very soothing and hypnotic quality to the whole thing, throughout which "wyrd visions across the sky" is repeated, sometimes spelled out. It's haunting and slow and simple and very well-crafted.

MP3 (from myspace): Wyrd Visions - "Bog Lord"

There doesn't seem to be very much information about Wyrd Visions (which keeps making me think of Wyld Stallions, not a coincidence, I'm sure) anywhere online. I've found this interview with Owen Pallett (Final Fantasy) in which he claims to admire Wyrd Visions so much that he'd give up his own project and join that one if given the chance, and that's about it. There is a quick account of the live experience here: "wyrd visions started the evening. the set was minimal, just two guitars. it was very hypnotizing, with repeated music and repeated lyrics, almost like he was chanting a mantra. somewhat haunting, especially since they played in quasi-darkness."

Anybody have more info?

Update: just got a message from Wyrd Visions on Myspace - "Hey, yeah, the record is called Half-Eaten Guitar. It should be available soon in record stores." Ok, well I guess we'll have to look for that then.
