The song has one of the oddest choruses I've ever heard (possibly NSFW) but it is one of the stronger tracks off last year's unfortunately mostly-overlooked album, The Weight is a Gift, from Nada Surf. Watch the video for "the Blankest Year" here on Youtube (I didn't want to embed it as that always makes my site load too slow for my liking). Thanks to Michael for the link. The video features all video projections - no fancy animation - and it looks fantastic. You should notice that this video includes what might be the very first literal reference to the band's name in any of their videos. Get it? There's a shadow/person who isn't there/nothing/"nada" surfing through the streets and across buildings. Awesome. Also - here's an odd little video of some guy interviewing Matthew, Ira, and Daniel about movies. Looks like Ira has the same hat as me and the guy who "sings" in Fall Out Boy. Bastard. The FOB guy, not Ira. Previously on Subinev: Acoustic Nada Surf videos I realize now that though I mention Nada Surf very often here, I've never done a very detailed post about them (in the past few years, at least). I'll fix that eventually.
