10:45 AM - Before the Yeah Yeah Yeahs there was Scandal.
I can't seem to find any mention of it, but it sure looks like Scandal's video for "The Warrior" was a pretty strong influence on the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, not just in Karen O's fashion sense but also when it comes to lyrics, right "warrior?" gold lion sounds just like no new tale to tell by love & rockets. weirdly, I hated no new tale to tell but I like gold lion. also, I love maps & I'm no hipster. I failed that quiz.

Patty Donahue (RIP) does seem to be a big influence on Karen O. The hair, the attitude, the dry humor. I do have to say I like the Waitresses' music much more than YYY's.
As for Scandal I love the single Goodbye to You but The Warrior, as well as their self-titled album, are both absolute torture to listen to. Smyth's vocals are always good, but the arrangements are way too over-the-top for even me to tolerate.
