08:38 AM - Are you mogging?

MOG is a social networking site based on musical taste - you install thier software which catalogs and tracks your music collection and listening habits, and this gets publicized on the site - the point is supposedly that you can meet peopl with similar taste and discover new music via your 'trusted MOGs' - which can include a number of artists as well as your average blogger. I signed up the other day and have been playing around with it - so far it feels like a cross between Myspace and Last.fm, so I'm still not entirely sure of it's need, but they seem to be trying pretty hard to add a lot of functionality to it and from reading a few blog posts on the site it looks like the growing community is having a good time.

They're doing a Death Cab for Cutie contest now in which you can win tickets and a trip to see the band in Seattle (if that's your thing) or an ipod with Ben Gibbard's favorite tunes on it (if you trust his musical taste, I guess). The catch is that you have to sign up with MOG to enter. But hey, I want to go to Seattle!
