02:32 PM - Mountain Goats Poll And Ticket Giveaway!

This Friday, May 16, The Mountain Goats will be playing an AIDS benefit show at the Brooklyn Masonic Temple in Ft. Greene. This is a great venue to see any show, but this special event is sure to be incredible. The lineup also includes John Oliver (from Comedy Central), Rock Plaza Central, The Gotham City Girls Roller Derby, and much more. Click "more" on this post for the full details.

Here's (contest has ended, sorry!) your chance to win a pair of tickets to this (which can be purchased through Ticketweb). Just answer the poll question (about your favorite Mountain Goats "Going To..." song) and then make sure to send a comment after submitting your poll. In the comment, I will need your name, email address, and if you want - your phone number in the body of the comment (don't worry, this info will go to me and nobody else). On the morning of Thursday, May 15, I'll randomly pick one of the emails and contact the winner. You'll have until 5pm Thursday to confirm (this is where providing your phone number when you enter might come in handy, in case you're not an obsessive email checker like some people) and then your name and a friend's will be on the list at the show!

If you feel bad about going to a benefit event for free, well, the money from the bar is also part of the funds, so drink up while you're there!

What: Supersnack's Big Third Ball: An Evening of Music, Hilarity, and Hitting AIDS Where It Hurts

When: Friday May 16th, 8pm

Where: Brooklyn Masonic Temple in Ft. Greene / 317 Clermont Ave, Fort Greene (Lafayette & Clermont), G train to Clinton-Washington, C to Lafayette, or B/D/N/Q/R/2/3/4/5 to Atlantic Center

Who's playing?:

* The Mountain Goats, playing their first show since postponing their most recent tour due to illness.
* John Oliver, fresh off the success of his Comedy Central hourlong special.
* Rock Plaza Central, they wrote an entire album from the point of view of mechanical horses – and it is awesome. Rolling Stone calls them "stars-in-waiting." Pop Matters says "Sure to have tears welling and fists aloft in raucous salute."
* Rob Lathan from MTV's Human Giant.
* Dave Hill, named one of Variety Magazine's "10 Comics to Watch" in 2007
* The Gotham Girls Roller Derby
* Sarah Bunting – Founder of TelevisionWithoutPity.com; writes hilarious things, and will share some of them with you.
* And many other special surprises. (This isn't one of those Hollywood trailers that gives away all the good parts of the movie.)

The evening will be hosted by my friends & yours Gwenn Barringer and Shawn Decker, national sex educators, authors and funny persons ("My Pet Virus").

Tickets: $25 (100% of proceeds go to AIDS Walk NY), available through TicketWeb.
