Defend Brooklyn (Nightlife): Save Union Hall | Main | AFTER THE JUMP FEST Noise Stage lineup
The Community Board 6 meeting last night at the Brooklyn Borough Hall court room (which is a pretty amazing looking building, by the way) was long and full of tension for a lot of people in the crowded room, as we all waited (not always so) patiently for the board to arrive at the issue of Union Hall's liquor license on the night's agenda (get some background info here). Luckily, the voting went in Union Hall's favor (specifically, against the motion to refuse the bar's liquor license renewal), with a further motion to act in support of the venue, as a majority of the community board members expressed their support of it as an asset to the neighborhood. Some tense moments, harsh words, and passionate speeches (both for and against) made for a really interesting meeting, which was followed by a show of support outside the doors of the court house by friends of Union Hall, as the board members exited. I've got more photos from the meeting and post-meeting celebrations right here. There's a lot of blog coverage on this going around here, here, here, here, and here (surely with more to come). This one is my favorite though.
