This isn't a complete birthday weekend wrapup, but I just wanted to thank every one of my friends for being so completely amazing. In general - thanks for the comments, emails, ims, cards, and phone calls. Thanks to those who took me out to dinner, bought me coffee, dinner, drinks, silly toys, and of course family for sending/giving me money and clothes! Ok, I'm going to attempt to stop being a brat now. But wait... I haven't thanked everyone. Oh no, not even close. There are a bunch of people (what, 19? 20?) who will be addressed in my next post. It's going to be a big one. People will be singled out. Fingers will be pointed. Gratitude will be expressed. Virtual hugs will be given. Hang on tight.

Gah! So busy! Not much time to post! Thanks to everyone who sent birthday wishes and came out to the show in the snow last night! I had so much fun! Thanks especially to Joe Willie for the lovely gift of vodka during the UH's set! Thanks to people who bought the records! Sorry to anyone I hurt with flying objects and tumbling amps! Thanks for the shots! And hugs! Yay! Posting photos and music links and words and art next week! Today I have to finish so much work before heading to jersey for birthday dinner (or day after birthday dinner?) then back here tomorrow for party party party! Ta ta!

So today we finally made it up to central park because I wanted to take pictures of cute little birds, but as you can see, some big orange things were totally screwing up my color palette.
Anyway, I think it was supposed to be art. More pictures of some things that are orange but more that aren't at some point... along with whatever huge backlog of photos I have for posting when I find some time. Busy busy busy!
Tonight after practice we'll be cramming the MiG/UH split 7" records into their sleaves and bags, plus I have more work to do, and then tomorrow of course is the release show at Luna Lounge (and my birthday, woohoo! I'm old!), then off to Jersey then yadda yadda yadda ok now that I think about it I probably won't be doing much posting until next week at the earliest. But I swear, I have totally awesome photos of rock stars with cardboard baseball players, tourists, ducks, ice, snow, cars, and maybe dead animals. YAY!
Oh and also I have a cute video of Chantal making the crowd at Southpaw sing happy birthday to her last night (which I may or may not put online). I promise I won't force anyone to do that tomorrow night.

No, I'm not just talking about my own! Yesterday was my friend Cheryl's birthday, today is Chantal's! Of course thursday is mine, then friday is Lacey's! Are there more people this week? I'm pretty sure there are but I'm forgetting.... anyway, Luna Lounge on thursday. Man in Gray / Unsacred Hearts split 7" record release show! I might wear a tiara if I'm feeling frisky! Yee-haw!

Greg (of the infamous Hoy interview podcast, for the few who caught that hear last month) had some of his gear stolen recently out of his van. Check out the info and photos and keep an eye out for his guitar and stuff and please let him know if you see anyone playing or trying to sell it.

Scott already posted this, but hey, I figure that plenty of my readers probably don't read the mp3 blogs and such so for once I'm actually going to post the mp3 myself... I mentioned the new Gorillaz album, Demon Days, and now I have a track off it (not the first single, though) - Dirty Harry. *Note - you can also just stream the mp3 if you want in the flash player up at the top there. In other news, you can check out a stream of Moby's new album, Hotel, here. It looks like that's actually some sort of marketing info sheet for the album (which is a DOUBLE album, wowzers!), so not only can you listen to commentary on the album tracks (WHAT? is this a dvd? weird) you can find out things like that "Beautiful" is the first single, which radio stations are playing it already, what publications Moby and the album are mentioned or featured in, tv appearances scheduled (including Moby being in some VH1 pilot for a show called "Most likely to..."), a free 5 minute iTunes sampler available on 2/22 (with commentary, what the hell?), and that they're planning on all sorts of cross-promotion stuff with hotels and whatnot, plus an upcoming 'lifestyles' book called "Teany Book: Stories, Food, Romance, and of course Tea" coming out on March 24th (the album is out on 3.22). Wow. That's a lot of info. The funny thing is I don't really care all that much about Moby's music, it was just sort of interesting to check out the ecard. Also out on 3/22 is the new Queens of the Stone Age album, Lullabies to Paralyze. "Little Sister" is a pretty awesome track (the video is a bit dull compared to their last one though, judging from the clip in this ecard), actually I prefer to just watch the actual live performances (find one here on Launch - yahoo login required)... actually they have the full length "real" video there as well, but really, if the video is just the band playing the song with really no narrative or anything, I'd rather watch them play it instead of mime it, wouldn't you? Thought so. Also - this Autolux "EPK Video" thing is weird and kind of stupid (even if their music is really great), in a "We want to be cool and arty and noisey like Sonic Youth but we don't really know how to" sort of way.

Optical illusions are neat-o! What, you don't think so? Pfft. Try telling me that AFTER you've watched the video of the paper dragon.

Kasabian's single, Club Foot, is the free download of the week over at the iTunes music store. If you're one of those (ok, a 'fellow') iPod toting, iTunes obsessive, music-in-earholes-cramming type like myself and you somehow haven't heard this track yet, I suggest you download it. Let it pop up on random a few times and then let me know what you think. My initial reaction to the track (and their sound in general) wasn't very positive, but somehow it's starting to seem catchier and catchier... pretty impressive considering the chorus to their single is (mostly) "ah ah ah aaaaaah ah ah" and then some incomprehensible warblage. Trust me, you'll be singing along, especially once you start seeing the grainy-black-and-white-war-footage video on MTV and FUSE every five minutes (trust me, it's on the way, I saw it last night). NME has info on the new Gorrillaz album. It's been a while, huh? By the way, you probably haven't noticed, but I updated the little Flash mp3 player at the top of this page. Also, if you want to download a song on there, right click and there's an option in there. That little gadget is so awesome. Webjay + XSPF Web Music Player = lovely. For a bit of subinev (ancient) history, check this out. Some dates and time periods just get messed up and don't work at all, but others are pretty funny to look at.

As you can see, Subinev.com has now fully migrated to its new home and I have actually moved the archives over as well. Things should be working just fine now... if you notice something really bizarre please let me know. Coming in the next full post - um, talk about music. Duh. But specifically talking about how awesome my rock star friends are. Yes.

I have a NY State Driver's License now. That's awesome. But I must say, I think I will miss being a card-carrying Jersey boy. No, you can't see it, the picture is ridiculous and I look like a 12 year old.

Yes, I know it's been a while since you've thought about them, but remember when you first listened to the Doves a few years ago? You were totally blown away, right? Then you probably saw them live and thought 'wow, where did these people come from?' Ok well that's how it happened for me. Anyway, their newest, Some Cities is out on March 1st, but the first single is Black and White Town, which, wouldn't ya know it, you can listen to. It's a bit more of a 'rocker' than what I usually think of the Doves doing, but overall a nice catchy tune. See for yourself - LOW | HIGH WMA, or LOW | HI REAL. Surely you'll agree that all the praise they're getting for the single and the album in the British press is pretty much spot on. So who wants to go see them with me at Bowery on March 15th? Also, another Beck remix (of E-Pro) is out there. It's from the exclusive iTunes Hell Yesep (seriously, go get that, it's really good, and I usually don't like remixes and such, but something about Beck songs with more blips and beeps and beats just does it for me every time). Here's Bad Cartridge - ("E-Pro" Paza Remix), and the only reason that I'm actually excited about this oddly hypnotic little flash song preview is... well, just click on the bat and play with it. Silly, but that's the kind of thing I enjoy, what can I say? Also, try playing the Game Boy (that's what it is, right? Looks like it.) for a bonus. Hot.

Mary and I went to see the Americans UK last night at the infamous 169 Bar. Holy poop those boys are good. Jeff's stage moves are fantastic, and I believe he has a patent out on the 'fist up, ass out' (sorry Freddie Mercury, Mick Jagger, and and 'see me pointing to my head? yeah these words came from RIGHT HERE!' moves. Radical. On a related note, what in the hell is a kimchi dog? On an even more unrelated note, here are birthday (2/24) present suggestions: your band's tee shirt (for those of you in bands), toy instruments, beef and cheese snacks, electrical engineering starter kits, drums (real or electronic), and any guitar pedal that can make me go SCREEEEEEEE! or DOOT Dooooot (warble) DOOOooOTTTOooodoootadyyy waaaarrrrrrrrrrbladoo. Thanks.

But Jay finally relaunched his site. It's looking very nice and professional, but not stuffy or too slick. Streamlined, functional, and best of all, the format makes his photos look even better (not that it's necesarry, but I happen to think that the sort of layout he chose really compliments photos very nicely). Good work, buddy, but next time, like, TELL me when you relaunch!

I just found an article in the Boston Phoenix about the recording session for Glenn Branca's Symphony #13 back in October. They made it seem a lot more hellish than it was... though I agree, it was a pretty intense two days. Does ANYONE have any clue when that recording is coming out? I thought they told us it would be release around 2/15, but I can't seem to find any information about it anywhere. Hmmph.

Thanks to D-Hella (who I swear has a secret blog, come on, give it up and hit me with a URL, you know you would have the most amazing music blog if you'd just share your goodies publicly), I've been listening to a stream of the Dears live on KCRW. They're really pretty good, and about halfway through the show they get really jammy and I didn't even realize it but after a minute or so I realized I was dancing in my chair. That's how hard they rocked it. Wail on, you adorable little Canucks.

Ok, so Beck's triplets aren't baby humans, but rather three versions of his new (super freaking buzzed at the moment due to that kickbutt leak) album, Guero. Apparently there will be "a standard CD, a double-disc package featuring two videos and a surround sound mix and a third version which includes four remixes. The two videos featured on the double-disc set will be for ?E-Pro? and ?Black Tambourine?. The remix artists on the third version of the release will include Boards Of Canada, Octet, Dizzee Rascall and Royksopp. How does one decide which version to get?" Read about it at Billboard.

I have a complaint about FedEx. However, my complaint also leads to a bit of stupid excitement. Apparently I missed a delivery this morning, and the moron who left the doortag didn't fill ANYTHING in so I had to call and find out what was up, so that's the complaint. The praise comes when they put me on hold... the music playing was 'Golden Years' by David Bowie. Best hold music ever! I was so excited I got into a conversation with the girl on the other end about hold music, since she seemed friendly and her response to my joy was 'oh, SWEET!'. Hah.

Hot on the heels of Lou Barlow's latest solo thingamabob, Stephen Malkmus is getting his third solo record out there on May 24 (ok so it's a few months apart, but I'm still so stuck on EMOH that I had to find an excuse to mention it). The records is called Face The Truth and it'll be out on Matador. In a subinev.com first, I'm going to nerd out and post the tracklisting for you: 1. ?Invisible Bodies? I wonder... is track 4 a Crash Test Dummies cover? That would be pretty funny, but unlikely. Good: the leaked version of Beck's Guero (how much of it is real, I wonder?), the iTunes exclusive Beck Hell Yes EP, the Doves Some Cities (how many exactly?), the Dears No Cities Left (that answers that), the Kills No Wow (cities = wow, maybe?), Bright Eyes "When the president talks to God" (because it is free on iTunes, just search for it). Bad: M83 Before the dawn heals us (I just can't get into it and that "Car Chase Terror!" track freaks me out every time it comes up in shuffle on the iPod. uncheck.), the Bravery Unconditional EP is just so-so, same goes for Razorlight. Somewhere in between: Kaiser Chiefs I predict a riot EP(They have potential and my guess is that over a few weeks of listening I'll come to like it a lot more, maybe, but for now I just keep imagining that they look like the Killers and that bothers me, so if you want to prove me wrong then go ahead). and still Totally Awesome: Lou Barlow Home, Low the Great Destroyer, and ...and you will know us by the Trail of Dead Worlds apart.
2. ?Baby C?mon?
3. ?Horslip?
4. ?Mmmmm??
5. ?Loud Cloud Crowd?
6. ?No More Shoes?
7. ?Mama?
8. ?Malediction?
9. ?Pencil Rot?
10. ?It Kills?
11. ?I?ve Hardly Been?
Not that you asked, but I'm in that kind of mood:
Subinev's good and bad records of the moment that I've heard lately and in some cases been listening to a lot!

These Death Attack shirts are pretty cool (even if a little... um.. weird). So I'm going to be changing things up again soon... changing hosts and such, plus I'm pretty busy with various projects, so I wouldn't expect many developments here at subinev.com just yet... but one thing I certainly need to do is add a lot of links to mp3 blogs and podcasts on here, because there are a lot I check pretty often but because I have a strange aversion of using 'favorites' I either have to memorize the urls or search for them and that's just stupid. Plus I like to like, share and stuff, ya know?

Looks like the 2 Headed Dog has officially been unmasked... or unofficially.. I don't know. Either way, the marketing campaign which seemingly had no product to offer has been revealed as the new identity of MTV2. Get it? Two heads? Ha. Funny. Yeah. The channel will launch it's new revamped incarnation after the super bowl. I don't care if I'm helping to promote something like MTV by posting about it, because, well, the site is pretty entertaining. The "Do you like these?" video made me crack up the most.

Yes, I got my stupid hair cut. Yes, that's me in a chair at a fancy shmancy salon getting it done up there on the right. Shut up. Just look at the picture of me and my haircut. The last time I actually went and got my hair cut by someone (like, for money) was... um... OK I can't remember. It was a long time ago. Anyway, I also got some new clothes to go with the new haircut... what, you ask? Well a shirt from Reverend Rainbow. Which one? Well take a look... it's the greatest image to ever grace a tee-shirt! Indeed!
