"I think when people hear the word 'change' they
automatically think it's a bad thing," notes Rahim
drummer and band father-figure Phil Sutton when
speaking about his band Rahim's debut full-length
release on Frenchkiss Records, Ideal Lives. "We're
three people naturally progressing." Change and
progress are important words in describing the New
York-based rockers, Rahim. With the release of
Jungles, their debut EP on Frenchkiss Records, Rahim
made a name for themselves by playing a fresh
interpretation of the jagged post-punk style of the
Washington, D.C.-area that is both melodic and
patient, and built on a strong rhythmic backbone.
Jungles saw Rahim adding soaring keyboards and
hypnotic drumming, showing off a different direction
sonically for the band. On Ideal Lives, Rahim can be
heard continuing to experiment musically and creating
a more refined and polished sound. After touring in
support of Jungles with label mates Thunderbirds Are
Now!, Rahim's two frontmen, Ryan McCoy and Michael
Friedrich, moved from Manhattan into Phil's childhood
home on eastern Long Island, where it all started. The
band's members are all locals of the area, where they
met playing house shows and basement parties with
their previous bands. Writing new material in their
old environment was strangely nostalgic, and the end
product is haunting. The members of Rahim have always
shared an affinity for the music of their parents
generation, but going back to that time musically
wasn't a creative decision, it just sort of happened.
And so instead of taking an elevator up to a Brooklyn
practice space, they went down to Phil's basement and
began working on music that reflected not just their
current situation, but also their entire lives.
Recorded with J. Robbins (whose prolific career needs
no introduction), Ideal Lives is beautiful and
unattractive, sinister and hopeful at once. The record
is a true testament to the progression and diligence
of a band constantly evolving. There's something to be
said about the sound of a Rahim song; it's encoded in
every fiber of every song the band puts forth. It's an
overwhelming sense of identity and it has been with
the band since the very beginning.

Summer 2006, Trickling beneath the seams of the
Brooklyn indie scene is a band you probably haven't
heard of yet. The Jealous Girlfriends formed in 2004
and have slowly built a momentous pressure, playing
shows at venues such as New York City's Mercury Lounge
and featuring a song on Showtime's popular "The L
Word". Earlier this year, Billboard Magazine
discovered this gem of a band and featured them with a
write up full of praise following it up with a
showcase at New York City's The Cutting Room. Their
video for "How Now" won first prize in the iPod Music
Video Contest. Most recently, The Jealous Girlfriends
were featured on the cover of the Deli Magazine's
seventh issue - a must read for those interested in
the up-and-coming New York indie scene. Their latest
craft sparkles from every angle-boasting credits from
Dave Sitek (TV on the Radio, Yeah Yeah Yeah's) and Dan
Long (Kevin Devine, The Fatales) - so much so, that
the tinge of greatness sticks with you long after the
record stops. The Jealous Girlfriends is a four-piece
that could hold their own against super-collective
Broken Social Scene. You can hear and inkling of
influence from Sonic Youth to Billie Holiday, Blur to
Edith Piaf, yet their sound is truly their own. You
may not have heard of them yet, but The Jealous
girlfriends are sure to become your next favorite
band. Vivalajealousgirlfriends,

THE RIGHT CHEMISTRY....Pure pop melody and artful
dissonance may at first seem to be on the opposite
ends of the sound spectrum, but New York City 's
Moto:Rosa manages to embrace both, creating stark but
exciting three-minute melodic gems in the process.
Moto:Rosa formed in September 2004, following a late
night "jam" between friends Chris and Scott at Chris's
home studio. The two figured it was time they finally
got together to flush out some song ideas they'd been
working on independently. It was an instant melding of
minds. The fact that the two guys had almost identical
CD collections (everything from Doors, Beatles, T Rex
to Bauhaus, Blur, The Fall, Placebo, etc.), and were
always turning up at the same shows around town,
turned out to be a musical epiphany. A few recordings
under their belt and a few shows with friends filling
in as needed. Nick and Lynnae joined in the fall of
2005, the line up now being complete, the band
re-debuted at The Sentimentalist Magazine party to a
packed house. Moto:Rosa is set to write history...

"Lolita Bras is a regular on the local scene. The
band's songwriting skill and onstage energy, however,
set them apart from the rest.
With hot licks and sweet sincerity, Lolita Bras will
seduce you with rock." - a.m. New York
Lolita Bras were formed in the summer of 2004 by
singer/guitarist Patrick Harmon, guitarist Hugh
Crickmore, and drummer Paul Frick after a coincidental
crossing of paths in Cambodia. After the acrimonious
departures of their first five bassists, the band was
fortunate enough to connect with the lovely Erica
D'Andrea Gray.
They soon began playing around NYC and throughout the
Northeast, and wasted no time garnering a loyal
fanbase. In January 2006, they played to packed houses
in a highly successful residency at Pianos (NYC).
Lolita Bras are currently working on new material and
recordings, with numerous live appearances to follow
this Fall.
