This was the name of my radio show on WNYU, and I began the website to keep track of playlists and post news about upcoming shows. I did this infrequently. Eventually I stopped doing the radio show and started posting more local music news and photos. When Blogger came along I tried it out, at my friend Michael’s suggestion, and got hooked on blogging. Yes, it was incredibly nerdy at the time - this was way before anybody was thinking about getting paid to blog, or being taken seriously as any sort of writer through the medium.
I've changed the look of the site, as well as the focus, countless times now. There were long periods of simplicity and pointless posts about tv and whatever I was thinking at the moment (the sort of 'bad blogging' that we all hate, right?). There were also many times when all I did was change the splash page a few times a week, in lieu of providing real content. I’ve had photoblogging phases in which the words on the page, er, screen were outnumbered by the photos, while at other times there were hardly any photos at all. What can I say? I change my mind, I change my internet. There’s never been a single focus to Subinev, and there never needed to be.
Somehow in the past couple of years the focus of the site has gone back to music, with lots of talk about upcoming shows, and more reviews of shows and albums. Still, the format remains very loose, and I plan to keep it that way.
Can you review my band?
Though I talk about music a lot, this is not exactly a music review site - it's still my personal website, though sometimes I will review music that I think my readers might enjoy. I will not promise anyone a review, but if you want to send me some music I'd be glad to listen to it. If you contact me and tell me about your band it's likely that I'll check out your stuff and let you know what I think about it - but don't expect a full-fledged review unless I'm really going crazy over it. If you want to send me music to listen to, I'll have you know that I prefer a link to digital files these days: .
Take my mp3 off your page!
Ok. Sorry. I'm not trying to steal any music or give any artist's work away. All mp3s posted on or linked to on Subinev are intended for review purposes only and you are strongly encouraged to support the artists and purchase their albums. Direct links to online vendors and digital distribution sites are provided often (when available). But if you are a label or artist and need something removed, do not hesitate to .
Advertising?
As you can see on the right, I'm using Blogads. You can place ads on Subinev.com right here. For other advertising inquiries,
for pricing and options.
Who does all this stuff for you? Where do you get your images?
I (Bryan) do it all. I generally won't post images created by somebody else. The photos I post (meaning live photos of bands and sometimes even press photos) are all my own work unless otherwise noted. The robot drawings (which I've started to call Robotinevs) are also my work. If you are interested in using one of my drawings for your own use, please ask first. Printable hi-res versions are also available in certain situations. I designed the site (and usually the flyers for shows that I will post) and do all the coding and such.
Will you come take photos of my band’s show/will you come take press photos of us? Can you design a t-shirt/poster/website for me, my band, or my pet? Buttons! I want buttons! Hey, can you do commercial web or graphic design? Like for my company? We need a freelancer, like, soon.
Sure! Go here for more info.
